Orthopedic surgery is a rapidly evolving specialty, and surgeons need to keep up with the latest advancements in the field to provide the best possible care for their patients.
In this episode, Brad and Kameron talk with Bryan Springer, President of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. Bryan is an Orthopaedic Surgeon and Fellowship Director at the OrthoCarolina Hip and Knee Center in Charlotte, NC, and a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Atrium Health Musculoskeletal Institute. Bryan is a recipient of many academic, leadership, and professional awards. He was named to the next generation of leaders in total joint replacement in 2013. And in 2008, Bryan was a John Insall Travelling Fellow.
Brad and Kameron talk with Bryan about his path to orthopedic surgery, how to build a successful career in hip and knee orthopedics, and how the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) offers a diverse group of surgeons career opportunities and growth.
[10:17] - "In hip and knee societies, it's critically important to have a mentor to help foster you along the process. And AAHKS is more about finding initially what your interests are and then allowing it to grow from there. But the mentorship role is so important." ~ Bryan Springer
[18:15] - "Do what you're interested in and give a lot to that aspect. But don't neglect that you can get involved in something that's not your strong suit, build your comfort level within that area, and contribute a ton." ~ Bryan Springer
[29:19] - "If you want to see personal and professional growth outside of what you do in your practice, being involved in hip and knee societies, anywhere from the state to the national level, is great. And the thing that's so rewarding about it is you work with people aligned with your same mission, vision, and goals." ~ Bryan Springer
